BLS Instructor Course
Prepare experienced BLS providers to teach American Heart Association BLS courses. Upon successful completion and alignment with an AHA Training Center, you can begin teaching BLS to others.

Prerequisites
You must meet all of the following before attending class.
- Current AHA BLS Provider card
- Completion of online BLS Instructor Essentials course prior to class
- Current AHA BLS Instructor Manual
What the course includes
A full-day instructor preparation experience covering all AHA requirements.
Classroom Orientation
Review of AHA instructor standards, course structure, and teaching expectations.
Teaching Practice
Hands-on practice delivering BLS content under instructor guidance.
Skills Check-offs
Demonstrate proficiency in all BLS skills to instructor standards.
Monitoring & Evaluation
Observed teaching sessions to confirm readiness to instruct independently.
After successful completion
Once you complete the course and align with an AHA Authorized Training Center, you can begin teaching BLS Provider courses. Maintain your instructor status by meeting the following requirements:
- Teach at least four BLS courses every two years
- Use only current AHA course materials
- Renew instructor status every two years
- Remain aligned with an AHA Authorized Training Center
